Bremer Moore Leads Training for Nonprofits on Worker Classification and Wages

Shouka Rezvani and the Nonprofit & Tax-Exempt Entities practice group at Tonkon Torp hosted a program on June 7 covering employment law issues for nonprofit organizations. Attorney Kristin Bremer Moore led the presentation, which was focused on providing information on wage and exemption rules, and worker classification. Kristin explored the foundational rules laid out in the Fair Standards Labor Act (FLSA) with regard to employee wages and exemption, including specifics pertaining to executive and administrative exemptions. She also stressed the importance of correct classification, and the consequences of misclassification, during a segment on classifying employees, independent contractors, interns, and volunteers.

The presentation was followed by a happy hour event for the program attendees. The event was the first in a series of seminars and happy hour gatherings targeted to nonprofit organizations.

Kristin Bremer Moore is chair of Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment practice and a member of the Nonprofit & Tax-Exempt Entities group.
