Tonkon Torp Hosts Employers for Worksite Enforcement Business Immigration Briefing

On September 18, Tonkon Torp Business Immigration lawyers Alan Perkins, Turid Owren, Melina LaMorticella, and Melany Savitt hosted their annual business immigration briefing for employers focusing on worksite enforcement by ICE, DOL, and USCIS. The program included an update on current worksite enforcement activity, the return of Social Security No-Match Letters, and Form I-9 compliance.

The attorneys reviewed recent statistics on ICE enforcement actions and the locations and industries most likely to be targeted. One of the key topics explored during the briefing was the return of the Social Security No-Match letter, which had been discontinued in 2011. They reviewed the penalties associated with the knowing employment of unauthorized workers, as well as penalties for Form I-9 completion errors and related discriminatory hiring and employment actions. The program wrapped up with instructions on how to properly complete, store, and correct Forms I?9.
