Tonkon Torp Lawyers Address Data Security, Intellectual Property & Privacy Issues Facing Businesses

Four attorneys from Tonkon Torp’s Intellectual Property and Information Privacy & Security practice groups presented a seminar yesterday on managing company risk in the internet age. In a program titled “Dealing with Too Much Information, Personal and Proprietary,” the team tackled subjects including risk and liability for data security breaches, trade secret protection and theft, and the risks associated with idea submissions.

“Businesses today are constantly faced with legal issues and business risks because they gather and create large amounts of sensitive business and personal information,” said attorney Ari Okano Lee, a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (CIPP/US). She and colleague Vanessa Lee Gebbie addressed information privacy and security issues, while litigator David Aman addressed data breach response.

Aman and litigator Jon Stride covered trade secret and idea submission issues including the potential impact of recent federal legislation. All of the speakers discussed common pitfalls and offered practical tips for managing risk. The event was held on the NIKE campus.

Tonkon Torp’s comprehensive Intellectual Property practice includes counsel, transactions and litigation to support businesses at all stages of growth. The Intellectual Property practice was recently recognized by Chambers USA, Leading Lawyers for Business, 2013.
