Tonkon Torp Attorneys Named 2012 Portland Lawyer of the Year in Three Practice Specialties

Best Lawyers’ 2012 Lawyers of the Year has named three partners from Tonkon Torp LLP as Portland Best Lawyer of the Year for their particular specialties.

Albert N. Kennedy was recognized as Litigation – Bankruptcy Lawyer of the Year. Michael M. Morgan was honored as Administrative / Regulatory Law Lawyer of the Year. Litigator William F. Martson, Jr. earned the Best Lawyers’ 2012 Portland Litigation – Banking & Finance Lawyer of the Year. Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is honored as the Lawyer of the Year.

Kennedy’s practice focuses on bankruptcy, commercial law and creditor’s rights. A member of Tonkon Torp’s Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights practice group, he has handled many high profile bankruptcy cases including one of the biggest and most complex cases of its kind ever filed in Oregon, Sunwest Management’s bankruptcy and subsequent $1.2 billion sale to Blackstone Real Estate Advisors. Kennedy recently was also named to the 2011 Super Lawyers list for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights.

Managing partner and a founding member of the firm, Morgan is a senior partner in Tonkon Torp’s Energy Law practice group and has decades of experience working with regulated industries. He has represented established and emerging energy and telecommunications companies before the Oregon Public Utility Commission, Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Bonneville Power Administration and Federal Communications Commission.

Martson, a member and former chair of the firm’s Litigation department, joined Tonkon Torp at its founding in 1974. He has tried over 200 cases involving securities and shareholder rights, natural resources and other commercial litigation issues. He handled the defense of a former vice-chair of the board and an executive officer in all of the Enron-related litigation, and successfully defended FLIR’s former CEO in an SEC investigation, an enforcement proceeding and a criminal prosecution. Martson is past president of the International Society of Barristers and recently was named to the 2011 Super Lawyers list for business litigation.
