Parna Mehrbani Addresses Imposter Syndrome with Lewis & Clark Law Students

Tonkon Torp Partner Parna Mehrbani was the featured speaker at a Lewis & Clark Law School presentation co-sponsored by the school’s Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Parna spoke to the law students about Imposter Syndrome, which affects many individuals – it can be described as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite success and accomplishments. Parna shared examples of the many forms in which Imposter Syndrome can manifest. She explored how it affects people in school, in the process of searching for a job, and in the workplace. Parna also provided various suggestions to remediate the often unconscious cycle of “thinking like an imposter,” encouraged the students to talk to one another and their professors about such feelings, and talked about the benefits of mentors and mentoring.

Parna is Co-Chair of the Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, and a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright registration, licensing and enforcement, and advising on intellectual property portfolios for local, national, and international companies. She also advises businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.
