Makers Meet to Talk Business Law Basics

Tonkon Torp business lawyer Lauren Wallace led a Tonkon Talk on June 1 covering Business Law basics for innovators and entrepreneurs involved in Maker culture in Oregon. Lauren discussed the legal realities of making and selling with special guest Terry “Starbucker” St. Marie, a startup mentor and co-founder of the online magazine, Built Oregon.

During the broad-ranging presentation, they discussed options for forming a business entity, protecting intellectual property, employment matters, funding and financing, contracts, and real estate. Companies that attended were from diverse sectors including agriculture, fintech, health care, retail, and fashion.

Lauren is an attorney in the firm’s Business Department, where she focuses on privacy, technology, intellectual property, and startup law.

“Tonkon Talks in the Pearl” is a series of lunch-hour presentations hosted by the firm’s Entrepreneurial Services Group. The talks are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the firm’s CENTRL Office location in the Pearl District, and provide an overview on legal topics that impact entrepreneurs, startups, and investors.
