Corbett Gordon Presents on Second Chance Employment for PHRMA

Corbett Gordon presented at a seminar on "Re-entry and Second Chance Employment" at the July 15 meeting of the Portland Human Resources Management Association (PHRMA). The Oregon state senate recently passed a bill that, once signed by Governor Brown, will "ban the box", meaning that employers will no longer be able to ask an applicant about his or her criminal background prior to a job interview. Corbett Gordon, one of PHRMA's Workforce Readiness Directors, walked the audience of HR professionals through the interview process. She and a fellow Workforce Director, offered tips on asking questions that find which applicants with criminal backgrounds are those that have truly changed their lives to become upstanding employees. Also speaking at the seminar was the Director of Human Resources at Dave's Killer Bread, a successful second chance employer that has navigated the hiring and continued employment of people with criminal backgrounds.
