Tonkon Torp’s Lawyers Address the Latest State and Federal Employment-Related Legislation and Rules Changes

Tonkon Torp lawyers Haley Bjerk and Kristin Bremer Moore spoke at the 5th annual Labor & Employment Law Conference in Portland on October 25, 2013. The conference covered some of the thorniest areas of the law for lawyers, employers and human resource professionals in Oregon public and private sector organizations.

Bjerk provided an immigration update, including the latest legislative developments in identity and employment verification as well as immigration and customs enforcement. A member of Tonkon Torp’s Business Immigration practice group, Bjerk focuses on employment-based immigration and counsels businesses on compliance matters relating to foreign national employees.

Moore’s presentation focused on differences between the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the new Oregon Family Leave Act, as well as updates on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Moore is a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment practice group. She represents employers in claims of discrimination, retaliation, wrongful discharge and other labor and employment matters.
