Tonkon Torp Litigator Addresses Public Records and Public Meetings Law

Tonkon Torp litigator Steven Wilker co-presented a seminar on Oregon’s public records and public meeting laws on June 11 in Portland. The full-day seminar offered public entities, media representatives and government watchdogs the opportunity to hear and discuss what Oregon law says about balancing the public’s right to information with individual privacy and other confidentiality concerns.

Wilker and co-presenter, attorney Eileen Eakins, summarized public records and public meetings law requirements, exemptions and recent legal cases. Wilker also addressed media perspectives on public records and meetings.

A partner in Tonkon Torp’s Intellectual Property and Information Privacy & Security practice groups, Wilker’s practice emphasizes media and technology law, intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. He also advises clients on ways to avoid litigation and how to better position themselves should litigation occur. Wilker was selected for The Best Lawyers in America® for 2013 for First Amendment and Commercial Litigation.
