Tonkon Torp litigator Daniel H. Skerritt has been reappointed to chair the Oregon chapter of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL) for a second year.
Skerritt, a member of the Tonkon Torp Litigation Department, has 35 years of experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial litigation. One of Oregon’s most respected litigators, he was recently named to a select list of “Bet the Company” lawyers by The Best Lawyers in America® 2012.
Skerritt has been instrumental in the development of programs in Oregon that support the ACTL mission of improving the standards and ethics of trial practice and the system of justice. He was a key driver of the Jury Experience Project, an initiative to provide young litigators with jury trial experience at a time when the vast majority of cases settle before trial. Skerritt also was instrumental in developing Oregon’s Expedited Civil Jury Case program, an initiative designed to offer a trial-based alternative to arbitration and to encourage speedier, less costly jury trials. As a result of his efforts, Skerritt last year was asked to serve on a national ACTL committee examining the vanishing jury trial.
Skerritt is a summa cum laude graduate of Willamette University College of Law and earned a postgraduate law degree from George Washington University. He is a fellow in the International Society of Barristers.
