Zack is an associate in Tonkon Torp’s Business Department with a practice focused on general business law, mergers and acquisitions, and offering training and strategic planning to nonprofit organizations. His career has been driven by intellectual curiosity and a passion for learning new fields and skills. Clients value Zack for his ability to absorb himself in their business and business needs and his talent for finding creative solutions to complex problems.
Prior to joining Tonkon Torp, Zack worked as an attorney with the Salem, Oregon law firm Heltzel Williams PC and as a law clerk with the Special Litigation Unit and the Tax and Finance Section of the Oregon Department of Justice. Zack graduated cum laude from Willamette University College of Law and has an M.B.A. in Business, Government & Not-for-Profit Management from the Atkinson Graduate School of Management.
Before launching his law career, Zack worked in the healthcare industry – as a paramedic serving Washington County’s 911 system, as a paramedic educator in Belize, as a paramedic/strike team leader at the Unaccompanied Child Refugee Camp in El Paso, TX, and as a Healthcare Supply Chain Analyst for the State of Oregon.
Zack enjoys immersing himself in different hobbies. In college he was the captain of a nationally-ranked ultimate Frisbee team. He later trained and taught Krav Maga. Currently, Zack climbs regularly and is passionate about social salsa and bachata dancing.

DEA Reportedly Set to Reschedule Marijuana to Schedule III
By Ferdinand Ruplin and Zack Schick – Big news for the cannabis industry: on April 30, 2024, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced that it will reschedule marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The Biden Administration has been pushing for this change for months, and the announcement from DEA provides a beacon of hope for operators in the cannabis industry that rescheduling will occur before the end of the year.
