The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has honored Tonkon Torp attorney Turid L. Owren with a presidential commendation for outstanding leadership in liaison.
Owren chairs the Nebraska Service Center Liaison Committee, which oversees adjudication and processing of immigrant petitions. It is one of five centers operated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS) to process petitions filed by companies and individuals seeking nonimmigrant and immigrant benefits.
Owren heads the immigration practice group at Tonkon Torp, where she advises domestic and international companies and individuals on employment-related immigration. A graduate of Reed College and Lewis and Clark Law School, she has practiced immigration law since 1988. She is listed in The Best Lawyers in America 2007 as one of Oregon’s leading attorneys in immigration law.
“I am honored by this award and grateful to my partners at Tonkon Torp for encouraging me to participate in immigration matters at a national level,” said Owren. “My work on the liaison committee has been an exciting challenge, especially given the public debate over immigration issues today.”
Owren was appointed chair of the national liaison committee a year ago and has been asked to continue chairing the committee for another year. She was presented with the presidential commendation earlier this month at the AILA annual conference in Orlando.
