For many decades, Tonkon Torp has been honored and proud to represent the Tonkin family and its businesses. In fact, the relationship dates back to the post-World War II era when the great-grandfather of Adam Tonkin (Ron Tonkin Chevrolet’s current General Manager) relied on his cousin Moe Tonkon, a founding partner of Tonkon Torp, for legal advice in connection with his automobile business. Since then, generations of Tonkon Torp attorneys have assisted generations of Tonkin family members in accomplishing their business, philanthropic, civic, and family objectives. It is a relationship we all treasure.
Therefore, it was no surprise when Brad and Ed Tonkin, well known for their business acumen, civic contributions, and starring roles in some of the most creative commercials that have ever aired in our marketplace, asked Tonkon Torp to lead the legal effort for the largest and most complex sale of an automobile dealership business in Oregon’s history. The transaction was widely reported in the automotive business press as one of the largest of its kind in the nation during this past year.
The sale of multiple dealerships required expertise across many subject matters and navigation through myriad local, state, and federal laws and regulations. A team of dedicated Tonkon Torp attorneys, led by Owen Blank with respect to business matters and Jeff Keeney with respect to real estate matters, assisted the Tonkins through the entire process. Announced in December, 2016, the transaction was successfully consummated in May, 2017.
