Nick Hanset

Nick is an associate in Tonkon Torp’s Business Department. He graduated from The George Washington University Law School where he was an associate on the Business & Finance Law Review, a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board, and a tutor for Administrative Law and Constitutional Law. During law school, Nick spent six-weeks studying European and international economic law at the University of Augsburg in Germany.

Nick also has an M.B.A. from the Oregon State University College of Business and for undergrad he was a double major at OSU, earning his B.S. in both Finance and Economics. Nick’s significant background in business allows him to better understand business operations and strategy.

During law school, Nick worked as a legal intern with MFS Investment Management, where he helped address the various legal needs of an asset management company. He also worked as a legal intern with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, researching securities law and assisting and shadowing attorneys through different stages of enforcement actions. Nick served as a student attorney in his law school’s Public Justice Advocacy Clinic, working with nonprofit clients to file Freedom of Information Act requests and litigate government information access cases. He also interned with the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, advocating for the securities industry to federal lawmakers, and worked as a legal research assistant at the George Washington University Regulatory Studies Center.

Nick is a fifth-generation Oregonian. His great grandpa started a business in Portland that his family owned and operated for over 100 years. He is a life-long fan of the Portland Trail Blazers and enjoys rooting them on in his free time, as well as going on road trips and spending time outdoors with his hound dog Bowie.
