Mia is an associate in Tonkon Torp’s Business Department, with a practice focused on transactional, intellectual property, and information privacy matters. She joined the firm from Olsen Barton, LLC where she worked on drafting and negotiating complex commercial real estate leases, supported clients before government agencies, and worked on service contracts. Clients value Mia for her attention to detail, ability to prioritize deadlines, and unflagging commitment to helping them achieve their business goals.
Mia’s additional experience includes a tenure with adidas as legal counsel and manager of their brand protection department. At adidas, Mia managed all anti-counterfeiting enforcement for North America, oversaw local counsel litigation efforts against infringing parties, and advocated for more robust intellectual property policies and enforcement practices before government agencies and global e-commerce and social platforms.
Mia is a graduate of Lewis & Clark Law School and earned her B.A. in history from The American University. In her free time, Mia enjoys hiking with her two dogs, throwing pottery, and exploring new travel destinations.

Oregon Consumer Privacy Act Enforcement Takes Effect July 1, 2025 for Nonprofits
By Mia Gutierrez and Parna Mehrbani – As Oregon’s data privacy landscape continues to evolve, nonprofits must take note: the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act (OCPA) will apply to nonprofit organizations beginning on July 1, 2025. The grace period granted to nonprofits is set to sunset, meaning organizations must be fully compliant by this date to avoid penalties.
Consumer Privacy Laws Are Expanding Nationwide

Businesses operating across the U.S. should pay close attention to the rapidly evolving consumer privacy landscape. To date, 20 states, including Oregon, have enacted comprehensive consumer privacy laws, with 14 already in effect and six more set to take effect later this year and on January 1, 2026.
What the SEC Amendments to Regulation S-P Mean for Your Business
By Mia Gutierrez and Jessica Morgan – On May 16, 2024, the SEC adopted amendments to Regulation S-P requiring broker-dealers, registered investment companies, registered investment advisers, funding portals, and transfer agents (collectively, “covered institutions”) to create an incident response program to deal with unauthorized access to or use of customer information. The amendments also expanded the obligations of covered institutions by requiring them to safeguard and properly dispose of a broader range of data types and maintain records documenting compliance with the amendments.
