Overview

Charlie is an attorney in Tonkon Torp’s Business Department, with a practice focused on corporate governance and business transactions. He also has significant experience advising businesses on commercial contract, regulatory, finance, intellectual property, and entrepreneurial matters. He represents clients of all sizes and at all stages of the business life cycle, from startup to financing to sale – often in the role of general outside counsel. 

Charlie is a results-driven lawyer with an exceptional track record. His prior experience as in-house legal counsel provides him with a unique legal and business operations perspective that appeals to corporate clients and allows him to bring a holistic business perspective to his practice. Clients value Charlie for his approachable and relatable manner and no-nonsense advice.

Charlie manages client legal affairs at the national and international level, negotiating and managing complex transactional and corporate contracts, and working with clients to implement foundational regulatory compliance frameworks. His industry experience is vast, including representing businesses in the renewable energy, data center development and infrastructure, athletic and outdoor wear, manufacturing, food and beverage, real estate development, wine and alcohol, and cannabis sectors.

Prior to joining Tonkon Torp, Charlie’s experience included working as in house counsel for Copia Power and Form Factory, Inc., as well as managing a solo practice for nine years.

Charlie is married with two teenage children. Charlie and his wife enjoy golfing, the Portland food scene, and travel. Charlie also regularly attends classes at his wife’s Pilates studio.

Tonkon Torp Guides Refreshing USA to Successful Liquidation

On September 9, 2025, the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Washington entered an order confirming the plan of liquidation Tonkon Torp, led by new bankruptcy practice group Co-Chair Danny Newman, filed for clients Refreshing USA, Water Station Technologies, and Creative Technologies (and another 20 entities that were merged or substantively consolidated into the Debtors).
