Tonkon Torp welcomes Alto Law Group's Josh Smith to the firm, where he will be practicing in the Entrepreneurial Services, Intellectual Property, and Mergers & Acquisitions practice groups. Smith is joining the firm as a partner as Tonkon Torp absorbs Alto Law Group and its clients. Smith brings substantial corporate and intellectual property transactional experience in the startup and technology sectors. His practice focuses on counseling emerging and mature companies on venture capital and angel financing opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures, technology licensing, and commercial agreements.

"Josh has a well-honed strategic instinct when it comes to creating growth pathways for companies, and he shares our goal of tailoring solutions to each client and their unique needs," said Darcy Norville, Managing Partner. "We are thrilled to add his experience and the Alto Law Group's close ties with the investment community and technology sector to our deep bench of business expertise. We look forward to introducing Josh’s particular skill set to our firm’s clients as well as offering his existing clients the full strength of our practice areas."

Smith has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at University of Portland and Lewis & Clark Law School since 2008 where he teaches a course on entrepreneurship and the law. He began his legal career at Stoel Rives LLP before joining Alto Law Group. Prior to embarking on a legal career, Smith was a pilot for United Airlines. He is also a retired U.S. Air Force pilot, having served 20 years on active duty and in the reserves.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to continue building on my vision of providing affordable, innovative legal solutions to companies at all stages of growth. I am also looking forward to the additional resources and capabilities that will be available to my clients at Tonkon Torp," shared Smith. "I have known many Tonkon Torp attorneys as peers and am now looking forward to working alongside them to enhance Tonkon Torp's reputation as the go-to law firm for the Portland-area business community."
