Tonkon Torp Presents Annual Employment Law Seminar

Lawyers in Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment Practice Group hosted 200 human resource professionals and other business leaders at the firm’s annual employment law seminar on May 15 at the Oregon Zoo.

The event featured presentations on employment issues related to religious accommodation, the implementation of Portland's new sick leave ordinance, pregnancy leave, and issues relating to working “off the clock." Attendees also heard updates on the ADA/FMLA, the Affordable Care Act and immigration law, as well as significant new labor & employment-related decisions from state and federal courts.

Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment Practice Group provides practical solutions to labor and employment problems for a diverse group of Pacific Northwest employers. The firm helps clients promote positive employee relations, protect competitive positions, deal with union activity, and defend against or minimize exposure to employment litigation.

According to Bob Carey, head of the practice group, the annual seminar gives Tonkon Torp clients and others an opportunity to discuss new developments in labor and employment law and litigation matters that impact their businesses. "Our goal is to give attendees the knowledge and mindfulness they need to effectively navigate workforce issues and comply with evolving legal requirements,” he says.
