Tonkon Torp Names Ava Schoen Director of Lawyer Development

Long-term Tonkon Torp attorney Ava Schoen has been named Director of Lawyer Development for the firm. Ava joined Tonkon Torp in 2004 in the litigation department and subsequently focused her practice on bankruptcy and debtor-creditor law.

As Director of Lawyer Development, Schoen will support Tonkon Torp’s lawyers in doing their jobs more effectively and efficiently, providing the best service possible to their clients. Schoen will work individually with attorneys to provide advice and guidance on topics related to professional development, career advancement, practice building, developing mentors, and managing stress. She will lead the onboarding of new and lateral attorneys, help coordinate the firm’s summer associate program, and assist the firm’s recruiting department.

“I’m thrilled that Ava is stepping into this new role,” said Anna Sortun, Tonkon Torp’s Managing Partner. “Ava has been at the firm for more than 20 years, as an associate, of-counsel, and most recently as a partner. The insight and knowledge she brings to this role will help us continue to attract and retain excellent lawyers – and develop those lawyers into important contributors to our community and economy.”

Prior to becoming the Director of Lawyer Development, Schoen was Co-Chair of the firm’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group, with a focus on Chapter 11 corporate reorganizations, out-of-court workouts, state-court receiverships, and debtor-creditor law. She will stay on as an attorney in the firm’s Bankruptcy Group.
