Tonkon Torp LLP Announces Two New Partners

Tonkon Torp LLP has elected Kristin Bremer and Gwendolyn Griffith to the partnership, effective January 1, 2011.

An experienced litigator, Bremer joined Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment Practice Group in 2006. Previously she was with the Portland firm of Barran Liebman. Bremer advises corporate managers and small business owners on matters of wage and hour law, the Fair Labor Standards Act, sexual harassment, discrimination and claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Family Medical Leave Act.

Bremer earned her J.D. degree cum laude in 2003 from Willamette University College of Law, where she was Symposium Editor for the Willamette Law Review. She is a frequent speaker at employment law and human resources events. Active in the community, she serves on committees for Planned Parenthood and the Campaign for Equal Justice and volunteers weekly as a mentor in the Minds Matter program for high school students aspiring to go to college.

Griffith is a member of the firm’s Taxation and Estate Planning practice groups. Her practice includes business formations, reorganizations and dissolutions, and crafting complex wealth transition structures and governance systems. She joined Tonkon Torp in 2008 after nine years as a partner at Speer Hoyt PC in Eugene.

In addition to practicing law for more than two decades, Griffith has taught tax subjects at various law schools including Willamette University and the University of Oregon. She is the author of several books on taxation and, most recently, on transitioning family wealth.

A frequent speaker on transition planning, tax and other business-related topics, Griffith works closely with the Oregon Office of the State Treasurer to facilitate the issuance of tax exempt bonds.  She also serves on the board of Youth Rights and Justice (formerly the Juvenile Rights Project). Griffith earned her law degree from Stanford University, where she was editor-in-chief of the Stanford Journal of International Law.

“We were delighted to attract these very accomplished attorneys to Tonkon Torp. They have contributed to our clients’ successes and to the firm’s capabilities and reputation in labor and employment, taxation and wealth planning. We are pleased to welcome Kristen and Gwen into the Tonkon Torp partnership,” said Michael M. Morgan, chair of the firm’s managing board.
