Tonkon Torp L&E Coffee Break Smooths Out Thorny Leave Laws

The May 14 session of the Tonkon Coffee Break webinar series addressed thorny leave issues related to COVID-19. The Coffee Break series, hosted by Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, provides practical advice to help businesses navigate L&E issues related to reopening their business.

In this session, attorneys Kristin Bremer Moore and Chris Morehead looked at the intersection of federal and state leave options created in response to COVID-19. These include federal leave options available through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL), Expanded Family Medical Leave (EFML), and the emergency rules added to the Oregon Family Leave Act and Oregon Sick Leave Act. Kristin and Chris walked through several scenarios to illustrate how these leave laws apply to different employee situations, and how they might complement or conflict with each other.

A recording of this webinar is available online. Webinar viewers are encouraged to follow up directly with attorneys to ask questions not addressed during the program. Visit here to sign up for our upcoming Tonkon Coffee Break webinars.
