On February 6, attorneys from Tonkon Torp’s Immigration Practice Group held a briefing for employers to help them prepare for the upcoming H-1B Cap season. Attorneys Melina LaMorticella , Turid Owren, Alan Perkins, and Melany Savitt led a program that touched on all aspects of the highly competitive visa for workers in specialty occupations.
The briefing presented an overview of the H-1B lottery, including the new electronic registration process which runs from March 1 – 20, 2020. The attorneys reviewed key points of the program from both the candidate and employer perspective, as well as filing requirements and fees, how to identify H-1B Cap candidates, and lottery registration options. They also provided helpful information for navigating tricky scenarios, post-filing issues that could arise, and H-1B alternatives. The briefing concluded with a look at how the Trump administration has impacted the H-1B program, worksite enforcement, and international travel over the last three years.
