PORTLAND, Ore. – Tonkon Torp is pleased to announce the launch of the Downtown Cup, a friendly competition with local law and accounting firms to support downtown and its small businesses.
Baker Tilly, Barran Liebman LLP, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP, Deloitte, Dunn Carney LLP, Geffen Mesher, Holland & Knight, KPMG, Perkins & Co, PwC, Schwabe, and Stoel Rives LLP have all signed on to the competition, with more businesses expected to join.
Participating firms will compete in a series of seasonal challenges to see who can do the most to support local, small businesses in downtown Portland. Winning companies will be rewarded with a variety of prizes. To kick things off, Tonkon Torp and Geffen Mesher are sponsoring a Summer Lunch Challenge. From now through Labor Day, the company that logs the most downtown Portland dine-in lunches will win a catered lunch for its team. Extra points will be awarded when lunch groups include participants from two or more competing firms.
Tonkon Torp Managing Partner Anna Sortun conceived of the challenge after the firm’s experience supporting Higgins Restaurant last summer. When restauranteur Greg Higgins put out a call for help warning Portlanders that his iconic restaurant was at risk of closing, Tonkon Torp and other downtown businesses rallied behind him. Tonkon Torp’s lawyers made an extra point of lunching and networking at Higgins and the experience not only helped Higgins but made a positive impact on Tonkon Torp’s culture and morale.
With the Downtown Cup, downtown firms hope to expand this concept and experience.
