Tonkon Torp partner Timothy Conway was honored as one of the Top 100 Restructuring Professionals at the 18th Annual Turnaround Atlas Awards Gala, held in New York City. The annual awards were presented by Global M&A Network, LLC. Conway was recognized as one of the Top 50 Restructuring Attorneys in the country, alongside some of the biggest names and practice leaders at the country’s largest firms.
Conway serves as Co-Chair of Tonkon Torp’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group and is widely acclaimed on a national level for his work. Ranked as a Band 1 attorney for Bankruptcy/Restructuring by Chambers USA, he has served as counsel for the debtor or committee counsel in some of the most significant commercial and business bankruptcy cases filed in the Pacific Northwest in the last 40 years. He is listed in both The Best Lawyers in America and Oregon Super Lawyers for his bankruptcy work and was named by Best Lawyers as Portland Lawyer of the Year for Litigation: Bankruptcy in 2020.
More recently, Conway was part of the Tonkon Torp team that handled the liquidation plan for Refreshing USA, et. al, in the deal honored with the “Ponzi Scheme Resolution of the Year” award at this year’s Atlas Awards Gala. In 2024, he worked on Meduri Farm’s debt restructuring, nominated by M&A Advisor as “Restructuring of the Year” in the $10 to $50 million category. Conway was also part of the team that managed the sale of NORPAC Foods, Inc., named an M&A Deal of the Year by M&A Advisor in the $100 to $250 million category. Conway also notably represented Karen Easterday and the estate of her late husband during the Easterday Ranches bankruptcy, a challenging situation for the family/owners because one of the eventual debtors that held hundreds of millions worth of real estate was a general partnership.
Further back, Conway, alongside his mentor Albert Kennedy, represented the debtor Stayton SW Assisted Living, L.L.C. and consolidated affiliates, or SunWest, in a Chapter 11 proceeding resulting in a confirmed Plan of Reorganization. The biggest and most complex bankruptcy case ever filed in the Pacific Northwest at the time, the consolidation, restructuring, and $1.2 billion sale involved over 700 entities. The transaction was ultimately awarded with Transaction of the Year, Large Company Turnaround, by the Turnaround Management Association in 2011.
Conway’s practice focuses on Debtor, creditor committee, and individual guarantor Chapter 11 corporate reorganizations, workouts, debtor‑creditor law, commercial litigation, and general business matters. He has substantial experience representing Chapter 11 debtors‑in‑possession, creditors committees, secured and unsecured creditors, and enterprises seeking to acquire assets. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington.
