Parna Mehrbani Talks Intellectual Property for Psilocybin Companies

On September 24, Tonkon Torp partner Parna Mehrbani participated in a panel on legal issues facing businesses under Oregon’s Psilocybin Services Act (PSA). The panel was held during the 2022 NW Cannabis and Psychedelics Law Institute, hosted by the OSB Cannabis and Psychedelics Law Section.

During a discussion on key legal topics for Oregon companies in the emerging psilocybin services industry, Parna focused on intellectual property considerations for both products and services. She shared information about trademark filing issues, available copyright protections, and recommended contractual protections. Parna also reviewed the rules and draft regulations for advertising psilocybin products and services, and package labeling requirements, which are governed by the Oregon Psilocybin Services section of the Oregon Health Authority.

Parna is Co-Chair of Tonkon Torp’s Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, and a partner in its Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright registration, licensing and enforcement, and advising on intellectual property portfolios for local, national, and international companies. She also advises businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.
