Mehrbani Joins State Bar Panel on Current Diversity and Inclusion Conversations

On October 27, Tonkon Torp partner Parna Mehrbani participated in a panel on diversity and inclusion hosted by the Oregon State Bar Corporate Counsel Section. During the panel, speakers asked and explored timely questions about diversity and inclusion to help lawyers in their interactions with employees, in their hiring practices, and with customers/clients.

The conversation examined: language preferences for supporting and welcoming people who identify with BIPOC, minority, and underrepresented communities; holding inclusive meetings and events in which all feel comfortable participating; and checking assumptions about clothing choices and creating dress codes that consider cultural and other factors. The panelists also discussed how to best support people impacted by global and cultural events, and the effect of subtle acts of exclusion and microaggressions on employees.

Parna is Co-Chair of Tonkon Torp’s Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, and a partner in its Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright registration, licensing and enforcement, and advising on intellectual property portfolios for local, national, and international companies. She also advises businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.
