Attorney Maureen McGee was a guest speaker at the AFSA Independents Conference & Expo 2026, hosted by the American Financial Services Association (AFSA), the primary trade association for the consumer credit industry, active since 1916. The conference is designed for CEOs, senior executives, and professionals from independently owned finance companies, as well as industry suppliers and representatives from major financial services firms.
By invitation from the AFSA Government Affairs Committee, McGee presented on “Oregon Inside Baseball,” discussing Oregon’s legislative landscape through the lens of policy, political power, and 2026 session dynamics. She gave an overview of Oregon culture and how it significantly impacts Oregon politics. McGee reviewed the structure of Oregon government and highlighted various political dynamics inherent to the state, including the impact of the urban/rural divide. She concluded her presentation by highlighting trending policy issues, including those relating to taxation, economic development, extended producer responsibility law, and consumer protections.
Maureen McGee is an attorney and state-registered lobbyist at Tonkon Torp, where she co-chairs the firm’s Public Policy, Government Affairs & Disputes Practice Group. She advises a wide variety of clients – including the Oregon Financial Services Association, other trade associations, corporations, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public institutions – in legally and politically complex discussions before the Oregon legislative and executive branches. Maureen’s extensive background in Oregon legislative work includes prior service as Senior Deputy Legislative Counsel to the Oregon Legislative Assembly, where she provided nonpartisan legal advice and legislative drafting services to the assembly’s 90 members.
