Maureen Bayer and Rachel Melissa Talk Extended Producer Responsibility Law at CoffeeFest

Environmental attorneys Maureen Bayer and Rachel Melissa were featured presenters at last month’s 2025 CoffeeFest Portland exhibition. The two spoke to an audience of coffee industry professionals on how coffee businesses can best navigate Extend Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws in Oregon and beyond.

They offered attendees a general overview of EPR law, broke down the details of Oregon’s Recycling Modernization Act, and reviewed what products are covered by the law. They also discussed what defines a “producer” under the law, key compliance obligations, and relevant exemptions. They closed their talk with a look at EPR law in Colorado, California, and beyond.

This year’s CoffeeFest in Portland was attended by over 1,100 industry professionals, 60% of whom were purchasing decision makers and influencers. Attendees came in large quantity from Washington, California, and Texas, in addition to Oregon.
