Jessica Morgan and Alex Tinker spoke on a panel of industry specialists to risk managers about the legal environment for cannabis-related business operators at the Western Regional Conference on September 18. During their panel, “Drug Money in the Age of Regulated Cannabis: How Close Can You Come Without Getting Burned?” Alex, Jessica, and a co-presenter shared insight into emerging state laws regulating recreational and medical cannabis, the current state of federal enforcement policy, and practical problems facing business owners and investors in the industry. They touched on how federal banking and tax laws interplay with state laws, and provided tips on how to structure operations to allow for flexibility as the cannabis legal environment continues to evolve.
The conference was hosted by the Risk Management Society Oregon Chapter.
