Tonkon Torp partner Danny Newman co-authored a four-article series in After the Bar, a digital publication produced by the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division to guide new lawyers through the early stages of their legal careers. The focus of the articles is navigating negotiations as an associate. Danny wrote the pieces with Todd Schwartz, a partner in Paul Hastings LLP’s Corporate Department.
The series ran from December 2022 to March 2023 and offers practical tips and points about different aspects of negotiations that are particularly relevant to younger lawyers. In their articles, Danny and Todd share on-the-job insight not taught at law school, offering vital tips on how associates can best manage client relations and their career when at a large or medium-sized law firm.

Danny Newman is a partner in Tonkon Torp’s Litigation Department, where he focuses his work in bankruptcy and reorganization and serves as Co-Chair of the Government Solutions Practice Group. He has worked on some of the largest chapter 11 cases in the Pacific Northwest, represented debtors and creditors of all kinds in state court litigation and out-of-court workouts, managed complex real estate and closely-held corporation disputes, and negotiated successful resolutions for challenges to ballot titles and investigations by various state agencies.
