Anna Sortun Shares Trial Expertise with MBA Young Lawyers Section

On October 28, Tonkon Torp partner Anna Sortun was a featured panelist for a program about closing arguments. The CLE was offered by the Multnomah Bar Association Young Lawyers Section as part of its practical trial skills series.

During the program, Anna and her co-presenters provided an introduction to closing arguments. Drawing upon their own trial experience, the attorneys explained the primary function of a closing argument and how it should differ from an opening statement. They shared a framework for building a strong closing, and included which details to emphasize and clarify for a jury. They wrapped up the program by sharing tips gained through their experience in the courtroom.

As Co-Chair of the firm’s Litigation Department, Anna has a wide-ranging commercial litigation practice that encompasses consumer protection matters, disputes between business owners, and complex tort cases. In her 15 years of practice, Anna has tried more than a dozen jury trials to verdict in state and federal court and has resolved dozens more short of trial, through motions practice or settlement.
