Tonkon Torp partner Parna Mehrbani was a keynote speaker at the Opportunities for Law in Oregon (OLIO) August 7 virtual event hosted by the Oregon State Bar. During her talk, Parna shared the pathway that led her to intellectual property law, discussing her experiences growing up in an immigrant household in Chicago and moving to Oregon for law school. She outlined her attempts to find balance in the early years of her practice and encouraged students to lean into their chosen area of law, community involvement, and the legal profession with the intent to make a positive impact. In closing, she invited the students to join her in harnessing the privilege of practicing law to change the way the profession talks about and addresses issues of equity and inclusion.
OLIO is a multi-day event designed to engage first year law students in conversations about impactful issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Sessions are designed to help build skills for success in law school and beyond. They provide opportunities for 1L students to interact with each other as well as with upper division students, attorneys, judges, and affinity bar leaders who will serve as their mentors and role models.
Parna is Co-Chair of Tonkon Torp’s Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, and a partner in its Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright registration, licensing and enforcement, and advising on intellectual property portfolios for local, national, and international companies. She also advises businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.
