Business Immigration Attorneys Host Year-End Employer Briefing

On November 12, Tonkon Torp Business Immigration lawyers Alan Perkins, Turid Owren, Melina LaMorticella, and Melany Savitt hosted their Annual Immigration Update for employers. The briefing covered changes in and challenges for business immigration during 2020, with a post-election look ahead to 2021.

The attorneys focused on several hot topics in business immigration, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, immigration changes under the Trump administration, and a preview of immigration priorities for the Biden administration. Kicking off with a deep dive into international travel, the attorneys addressed visa applications, entry requirements, and pandemic- related Trump administration proclamations. The program continued with an update on temporary visas for business visitors, L-1 intracompany transferees, H-1B and treaty professionals, treaty traders and investors, extraordinary ability professionals, students, healthcare professionals, and other available visa types. Discussing the topic of obtaining permanent residence, the attorneys reviewed the current requirements and process for obtaining labor certification (PERM), alternatives to PERM, I-140 immigrant petitions, options for healthcare professionals, quotas, adjustment of status, and naturalization.

Tonkon Torp's Business Immigration Practice Group will provide an encore presentation of this Annual Immigration Update on December 10, 2020. Our Business Immigration Practice Group counsels businesses on the full suite of immigration options and compliance matters relating to employment of foreign national employees.
