Melina LaMorticella Joins UO Town Hall in Support of International Students

On July 22, Tonkon Torp Business Immigration partner Melina LaMorticella participated in a virtual town hall hosted by University of Oregon President Michael Schill to help international students navigate this time of crisis and change. Melina joined a panel of UO leaders and international student advisors to provide a legal perspective on how the changing immigration law landscape might impact higher education for students, faculty, and staff.

The panelists explored how the University led a national response to the issued and rescinded July 6 ICE ruling, which would have forced international students enrolled in only online courses to leave the US. While UO leadership awaits final rules for fall international student enrollment, they noted how the University is monitoring and preparing for the phased resumption of visa issuance.

Melina represents regional and international companies in matters related to employment-based immigration. She has successfully handled immigration matters for multinational corporations and regional companies. Active in the business immigration community, Melina is frequently invited to speak on business immigration topics.
