Parna Mehrbani Previews California Consumer Privacy Act for OSB Business Law Section

On December 3, Tonkon Torp attorney Parna Mehrbani spoke at a CLE hosted by the Oregon State Bar Business Law Section in Eugene. The discussion was focused on the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which goes into effect on January 1, 2020. During the presentation, Parna and a fellow Portland attorney provided an overview of the CCPA, a broad consumer privacy law that will impact a significant number of businesses based in Oregon who do business in California or with California residents. They reviewed who the CCPA covers, what it requires, and the rights of California residents under the law. They also shared information on recently adopted amendments and the California Attorney General’s current draft.

Parna is Co-Chair of the Information Privacy & Security Practice Group, and a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Her practice is focused on intellectual property, trademark and copyright registration, licensing, and enforcement, and advising on intellectual property portfolios for local, national, and international companies. She also advises businesses on the management and security of personal data and the laws that regulate the collection, use, and protection of personal data.
