Tonkon Torp attorney Colin Geiger spoke to the general assembly at the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel (OADC) annual convention on June 16. His topic was handling confidential employee information, ranging from medical information to job references.
Colin broke down provisions of key privacy laws and regulations, and provided strategies for ensuring employer compliance. Under the medical information category, he covered ADA, FMLA/OFLA, sick leave, and workers compensation. He also reviewed HIPAA, whistleblowing reports, work authorization documents, background checks, the Identity Theft Prevention Act, personnel files, and job references.
Colin is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group. He defends employers in lawsuits filed by current or former employees, and provides guidance in other human resource matters.
