June Tonkon Talk Clarifies the Hazy Law of Industrial Hemp and CBD

Tonkon Torp attorney Alex Tinker, co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis Industry Group, led a discussion at the June 6 Tonkon Talk on the evolving legal status of industrial hemp and CBD. Alex provided a historical context for the current federal classification of industrial hemp and hemp-derived CBD within the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, the Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act, and DEA Drug Code 7350. He also discussed the emerging laws that could impact the growing nationwide market for hemp-derived CBD products.

Alex is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department. He represents individuals and companies doing business in the cannabis industry, and advises clients on Oregon's cannabis laws and regulations.

"Tonkon Talks in the Pearl" is a series of lunch-hour presentations hosted by the firm’s Entrepreneurial Services Group. They are held on the first Wednesday of most months at the firm's CENTRL Office location in the Pearl District. The talks provide an overview on legal topics that impact entrepreneurs and startups.
