Gwen Griffith Presents The CLiF Project at OSB Pro Bono Fair

Tonkon Torp attorney Gwen Griffith participated in a presentation discussing The CLiF (Changing Lives Forever) Project at the Oregon State Bar (OSB) Pro Bono Fair on October 26. The event was held in conjunction with the American Bar Association National Pro Bono Celebration.

During the discussion, Gwen explained how attorneys working in the Tonkon Torp-based pro bono program are helping deserving young people obtain relief from sex offender registration. The CLiF Project provides extensive support and its wide-ranging expertise to volunteer lawyers learning the ropes of helping these young people. Her panel partner was Mark McKechnie, the Executive Director of Youth, Rights & Justice, who presented extensive research on how registering juveniles as sex offenders provides no public safety benefits. Mark also traced the complex legislative history of Oregon's approach to juvenile registration.

Gwen has a wide-ranging tax practice that cover matters of business taxation, personal tax issues, advice to nonprofits and local governments, and estate planning. She co-founded The CLiF Project in 2010. With the participation of both Tonkon Torp lawyers and other lawyers around the state, The CLiF Project helps deserving young people adjudicated as juveniles for sex crimes to seek relief from sex offender registration. The CLiF Project is part of a long-term collaboration between Tonkon Torp and Youth, Rights & Justice, a nonprofit public interest law firm.
