Melina LaMorticella Moderates Panel on Business Immigration in the Healthcare Industry

On June 16, Tonkon Torp Business Immigration attorney Melina LaMorticella moderated a panel discussion for the Health Law Section of the Oregon State Bar on how immigration law impacts healthcare delivery. In addition to Melina, the panel included an in-house attorney at PeaceHealth and a foreign national physician working for PeaceHealth in Longview, Washington.

The discussion kicked off with an overview of immigration laws and key provisions impacting healthcare providers. The panelists then answered questions about how they navigate immigration issues under the Trump administration, and how they overcome hurdles that arise when recruiting and hiring foreign national physicians requiring visa sponsorship. They also discussed how business immigration challenges can impact the service of Oregon’s medically underserved areas.

Melina represents regional and international companies in matters related to employment-based immigration. She is the Chair for the Oregon chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and is frequently invited to speak on business immigration topics.
