Tonkon Talk Reviews Funding Options for Startups

At the June 7 Tonkon Talk, business attorneys Drea Schmidt and Claire Brown provided an update on crowdfunding and capital-raising strategies for startups.

They discussed the extent to which capital-raising strategies that fall under the umbrella term of “crowdfunding” are being used to help companies access investor funds, highlighting the trade-offs between various crowdfunding alternatives. They also contrasted traditional private placements against these crowdfunding methods, making the case that traditional private placements are still one of the best fundraising options for most startups.

Drea and Claire are members of the firm’s Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurial Services practice groups. They practice in the areas of securities, corporate governance, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters. Drea and Claire counsel a variety of business clients, including small businesses and startups, on various business and fundraising matters.

“Tonkon Talks in the Pearl” is a series of lunch-hour presentations hosted by the firm’s Entrepreneurial Services Group. They are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the firm’s CENTRL Office location in the Pearl District. The talks provide an overview on legal topics that impact entrepreneurs and startups.
