At the June 7 Tonkon Talk, business attorneys Drea Schmidt and Claire Brown provided an update on crowdfunding and capital-raising strategies for startups.
They discussed the extent to which capital-raising strategies that fall under the umbrella term of "crowdfunding" are being used to help companies access investor funds, highlighting the trade-offs between various crowdfunding alternatives. They also contrasted traditional private placements against these crowdfunding methods, making the case that traditional private placements are still one of the best fundraising options for most startups.
Drea and Claire are members of the firm's Corporate Finance and Entrepreneurial Services practice groups.
