Noted Business Attorney Brenda Meltebeke Joins Tonkon Torp

Brenda Meltebeke, an experienced securities and startup attorney has joined the Business Department of Tonkon Torp as a partner. Meltebeke has practiced law in Portland for more than 20 years. She comes to Tonkon Torp from Ater Wynne LLP, where she served as the Firm Chair and Chair of the Startup and Emerging Business Practice Group.

Meltebeke has a broad corporate and securities law practice that includes startup and early stage companies, as well as more mature entities. She represents venture capital and angel funds in the formation stage, as well as in their investments in portfolio companies. She also has substantial experience in business counseling and general corporate law – representing startup and emerging growth companies with entity formation, corporate governance guidance, corporate finance issues, and M&A services.

 

Meltebeke has been named an Oregon Super Lawyer and is recognized in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a leader in her field in Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions, as well as in The Best Lawyers in America 2017 for her work in the practice areas of business organizations (including LLCs and partnerships) and securities/capital markets law. In 2012, she received the Orchid Award from the Portland Business Journal for her business and civic contributions. She was also recognized in 2014 as Volunteer of the Year by the Oregon Entrepreneur Network.

 

Meltebeke will split her time between Tonkon Torp’s downtown headquarters office and its CENTRL office annex in the Pearl District, which was opened in June 2015 to allow members of Tonkon Torp’s Entrepreneurial Services practice group and other lawyers from the firm to stay in touch with the startup community.

A native of Hillsboro, Oregon, Meltebeke received her Bachelor of Science, with honors, from Portland State University in 1983, and her Juris Doctor from Boston University in 1986. She is a Board Member of the Regional Arts & Culture Council, and is on the Board of Trustees for Marylhurst University. In the past, she has served as a Board Member and Chair of the Development Committee of the Oregon Entrepreneurs Network, and as a Board Member and Board Chair of Literary Arts, Inc.
