Max Miller Provides Clarity on Sediment Site Cleanup

Max Miller Jr., of Tonkon Torp’s Environmental & Natural Resources practice group, provided an in-depth legal overview of cost allocation for contaminated sediment site cleanups to the Northwest Environmental Business Council (NEBC). Max and co-presenter David Livermore, of Integral Consulting, unraveled the process of determining who pays for contaminated sediment cleanup and identified unique sediment site legal issues. After providing federal and local legal bases for cleanup liability and defenses, they walked through liability factors and provided allocation strategy, approaches and tools.

Max’s experience includes both transactional counsel and litigation representation. His clients’ industries include manufacturing, renewable energy, real estate development, forestry, and forest products. He is and has been involved in a number of proceedings designed to allocate the cost of hazardous waste cleanups, including at sediment sites.
