Creps Explains Portland Sick Leave Ordinance at State’s Annual Employment Law Conference

Tonkon Torp labor and employment attorney Clay Creps was a speaker at the Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries’ (BOLI) annual employment law conference, held November 6 and 7, 2014 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Creps and a BOLI specialist shared the podium to discuss “Portland Protected Sick Time: What Employers Need to Know.” The 90-minute session included an overview of the ordinance, how it affects Portland employers, and what employers need to know to incorporate the ordinance into their existing employment practices. The discussion also covered what other paid leaves already affect employers and how the ordinance intersects with those laws and an employer’s existing obligation to provide employees with paid and/or unpaid leave.

Creps, a partner in Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment practice group, has more than 25 years of experience providing counsel and litigation services for all types of labor and employment problems. Tonkon Torp’s Labor & Employment practice helps a diverse group of Pacific Northwest employers to promote positive employee relations, protect competitive positions, deal with union activity, and defend against or minimize exposure to employment litigation.
