Michael Millender Explains Nexus for Tax Professionals
Business lawyer Michael Millender was a presenter at a National Business Institute continuing legal education seminar held October 28-29. The two-day seminar, Multi-State Business Tax for Pacific Northwest Practitioners, provided attendees with a review of common tax challenges facing Pacific Northwest businesses, as well a survey of techniques to better assist companies who do business in neighboring states.
Millender presented on the concept of tax nexus, examining the circumstances in which a state can require an out-of-state seller to collect its sales tax or pay its income tax, as well as reviewing recent trends in nexus taxation.
Millender practices in the areas of tax and employee benefits. His tax practice focuses on the federal, state and local taxation of businesses, with an emphasis on the structuring of business transactions and the taxation of corporations, partnerships and LLCs. In the benefits area, Michael advises clients on a wide range of issues involving retirement plans, equity-based plans and fringe benefit plans
