Trial Practice Professor Rick Martson Prepares Students for Court

Tonkon Torp litigator Rick Martson, a Visiting Professor at Willamette University College of Law, was recently profiled in the Spring 2014 issue of the law school’s Willamette Lawyer magazine. The article highlights Martson’s teaching methods and beliefs, drawn from his own experience trying more than 200 cases and more than 75 injunctive proceedings to conclusion. Martson learned by doing and advocates the same for his students.

Martson’s three-day-a-week Trial Practice course includes one day of lecture focusing on a particular skill and two days of student trial simulation performance. Every student performs each day, and Martson critiques each in front of the rest of the class, allowing students to learn from each other’s experiences.
