Al Kennedy Speaks at Two Professional Events on Bankruptcy Issues

Tonkon Torp bankruptcy attorney Albert Kennedy was a panelist at two recent professional conferences.

On September 7, Kennedy shared his perspective on challenges for landlords and lenders in retail restructurings.  His presentation was part of the Turnaround Management Association’s 13th annual Northwest Cross-Border Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.

On October 19, Kennedy participated on a panel on the subject, “Forum Shopping and the Venue Market Failure in Bankruptcy.”  The discussion was part of a two-day continuing legal education program in Portland on debtor-creditor issues, sponsored by the Oregon State Bar.

A member of Tonkon Torp’s nationally recognized Bankruptcy Practice Group, Kennedy has represented creditors (including financial institutions) and debtors in bankruptcy proceedings, commercial litigation and real estate foreclosures before both federal and state courts. He also has extensive experience in the negotiation and documentation of commercial loan transactions.

Kennedy has been a lead attorney in some of the most significant commercial bankruptcy cases filed in Oregon and Southwest Washington, including Stayton SW Assisted Living LLC (the Consolidated Sunwest cases), Storables, Inc., The Columbian Publishing Company, Renaissance Custom Homes, Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation, Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company and The Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon.

Best Lawyers named Kennedy the Portland, Oregon Creditor’s Rights and Bankruptcy Lawyer of the Year for both 2011 and 2012 and recently named him to its 2013 Best Lawyers in America list. Kennedy also was named to the 2011 and 2012 Super Lawyers lists for Bankruptcy and Creditor/Debtor Rights. For their work on the Sunwest matter, Kennedy and Tonkon Torp colleague Kenneth D. Stephens were recognized with the Transaction of the Year, Large Company Turnaround award, by the Turnaround Management Association in 2011.
