Tonkon Torp Facilitates Oregon’s Growing Solar Energy Resources

More and more “thin-film” solar panels are appearing on the rooftops of Portland metropolitan area buildings, thanks to the work of Tonkon Torp’s Energy Practice Group.

The most recent addition is completion of a 900,000 square foot solar panel installation on seven warehouses in Portland, Gresham and Clackamas. Tonkon Torp represented Portland General Electric in its agreement with ProLogis and U.S. Bank to create what was at the time the largest rooftop solar project in the Pacific Northwest. Tonkon attorneys worked on project development, tax credit and equity financing portions of the deal.

The complex, multi-party transaction expanded PGE’s solar energy capacity to more than 12 megawatts and is the third solar project Tonkon Torp has facilitated for PGE, including a previous rooftop agreement and the first solar panel project installed on a major U.S. highway.

“Our interdisciplinary approach to serving the solar industry means we can represent a client on the whole range of development issues, from real estate and finance to governmental relations, environmental law and intellectual property,” says David Petersen, co-chair of Tonkon’s Energy Practice Group.
