Caroline Harris Crowne Named DJC Up & Coming Lawyer of the Year

Tonkon Torp litigator Caroline Harris Crowne has been selected 2010 Up & Coming Lawyer of the Year by The Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, Oregon). She received the top honor among a field of 92 young lawyers who were nominated and 24 who were recognized by a judging panel made up of leaders from Oregon’s legal community.

Up & Coming Lawyers honors attorneys with law firms, judicial law clerks and government, in-house and sole practitioners who exhibit outstanding commitment to the legal profession and the community. Only lawyers admitted to the Oregon State Bar from 2000 to 2010 were considered.

Harris Crowne joined Tonkon Torp in 2003 and was named a partner a year ago. Her broad litigation experience includes contracts, fiduciary duties, copyrights, damage to business property, employment and real estate.  She has taken more than a dozen cases to trial before juries, judges and arbitrators and was named a “Rising Star” in Super Lawyers 2009-2010.

Harris Crowne was one of the first participants in the Jury Experience Project (JEP), a program launched by the Oregon chapter of the American College of Trial Lawyers to provide young litigators with more jury trial experience in this age of arbitration and settlements. As a JEP participant, in January 2009, she served as a special prosecutor in the Multnomah District Attorney’s office, where she completed several jury trials and bench trials, along with numerous court hearings.

Caroline graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif from NYU School of Law in 2001, and summa cum laude from Rice University. Before moving to Portland, she was a judicial clerk in the Southern District of New York. She volunteers for the Southeast Legal Clinic and the Legal Aid Domestic Violence Project, and has served in leadership roles with the City Club of Portland and the Portland Business Alliance.

“Caroline is an exceptional young litigator who has accomplished a lot quite early in her career. Her experience makes her a valued asset to her clients and to our firm. It is great to see her accomplishments recognized by the larger community,” said Mike Morgan, Managing Partner.
