Tonkon Torp Immigration Practice Earns Top Honors from Peers

October 18, 2010, Portland, Ore. – Tonkon Torp’s Immigration Practice Group, which advises domestic and international companies and individuals on employment-related immigration issues, has earned top tier rankings this year by Chambers USA and the newly released U.S. News Best Lawyers/Best Law Firms report.

The practice group, established in 1999 by Turid L. Owren, works with some of the region’s largest manufacturing, healthcare and technology organizations to help them successfully hire and retain foreign workers for assignments in the United States.

Owren, who chairs the practice group, recently was appointed to two national committees of professionally recognized immigration attorneys that review policies and practices of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). The committees, under the auspices of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), monitor and provide impartial, third-party professional review of USCIS adjudication trends as well as specific cases. This is the seventh consecutive year that Owren has been asked to serve on or chair AILA committees. She received an AILA presidential commendation for outstanding leadership in 2007.

Alan C. Perkins, another partner in the Tonkon Torp immigration practice, also has been asked for the second time to serve on an AILA committee.

A graduate of Lewis and Clark Law School, Owren has practiced immigration law since 1988. She is listed in the 2010 edition of Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and The Best Lawyers in America 2011. Perkins, a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School, joined the firm in 2007 and is listed in Chambers USA.
