Tonkon Torp LLP has elected Caroline Harris Crowne, Jackson Lewis and Alan C. Perkins to the partnership, effective January 1, 2010.
Caroline Harris Crowne is an experienced trial attorney in cases involving business disputes. Her practice focuses on litigation between business owners and cases with accounting issues. In addition, she has broad litigation experience in areas of law such as contracts, fiduciary duties, copyrights, damage to business property, employment and real estate. Last year, Harris Crowne was selected to serve as a special prosecutor in the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office in a month-long program that gives civil litigators the opportunity to hone their jury trial skills by prosecuting misdemeanors.
Harris Crowne graduated summa cum laude from Rice University in 1997 and magna cum laude, Order of the Coif from NYU School of Law in 2001. Before moving to Portland, she completed a judicial clerkship in the Southern District of New York. She is a volunteer attorney for the Southeast Legal Clinic and the Legal Aid Domestic Violence Project, and has served in several leadership roles with the City Club of Portland and the Portland Business Alliance.
Jackson Lewis is a member of the firm’s Estate Planning Practice Group, where he advises high-net worth clients on estate planning and charitable giving strategies and handles estate administration and probate litigation. In addition to counseling closely-held businesses on family wealth transition and succession planning issues, Lewis has significant experience advising private foundations and public charities on questions of fiduciary responsibility and compliance with federal and state nonprofit laws. He frequently addresses nonprofit associations and wealth planning professionals on developments in estate planning.
A 1999 graduate of University of Michigan Law School, Lewis graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1989. He serves on the board of the Broadway Rose Theatre Company. Lewis has been recognized by the Oregon State Bar New Lawyers Division for his pro bono service commitment.
Alan C. Perkins is a member of the Tonkon Torp Immigration Practice Group, where he focuses on employment-based immigration matters. Prior to joining Tonkon Torp in 2007, he was a corporate immigration lawyer for eight years in San Francisco with Cooley Godward LLP, and most recently with Duane Morris LLP. In 2008 and 2009, Perkins served on a national committee of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) that works with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on policy and adjudication issues.
A Portland native who graduated from Willamette University summa cum laude in 1993, Perkins earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1997. In addition to his experience in immigration law, Perkins’ areas of practice have included employment law, real estate and international law.
